Children have fun decorating monsters cut out from large paper bags.
Have plenty of materials on hand for children to decorate their monsters just the way they want to.

Maurice Sendak – Where the Wild Things Are
Start with a small brown paper bag.
Have parts to assemble for the different parts of the monsters body. This includes things for the face as well. Have a cutout of a face with horn that the children can decorate as well. You can even use a small paper plate and decorate it to be attached to the paper bag.
Glue cotton batting (which is what pillows are stuffed with) around the edge of the plate. Let the children dab black paint on top of the cotton batting to make them look dirty. They can use a sponge for this.
The children name their monsters, and place it on the monsters belly. “My monsters name is ………..”
